One hot summer day in July of 2007, Tom Binns (On-Target's Videographer and Producer) and Larry Shields (On-Target's On-Camera Host)*, were driving across a large gravel parking lot at Camp Perry, Ohio. The conversation turned to the subject of getting more involved in the shooting sports arena. They were attending the annual National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio held by the National Rifle Association and the Civilian Marksmanship Program. On the way home, their conversation turned to the possibility of producing top quality, low cost firearm disassembly and reassembly DVDs.

Tom and Larry followed up this discussion with a trip to the 2008 SHOT Show in Las Vegas to gather data and research the idea. In February of 2008, On-Target Productions was formed. Their first DVD was subsequently produced and a website was designed - all with hopeful anticipation. They were delighted when the first DVD was met with enthusiastic support. Thus encouraged, they continued producing top quality videography while keeping costs low. To date, they have produced over thirty DVD titles, have a loyal following and receive many requests for additional DVDs. In recent years, On-Target produced contract video projects for Desert Eagle and Henry Repeating Arms. They continue to research the interest level of the popular firearms and produce new DVDs as the demand warrants.

In March of 2016, Larry Shields lost his battle with cancer. Larry was a great friend and mentor to the On-Target team. His ability to talk to the camera with ease and explain how to disassemble and reassemble firearms created a lasting legacy.

Dan Schneider has stepped into the on-camera roll to allow On-Target to continue producing high quality affordable firearm based video productions. Dan comes with a very unique background as a former U.S. Marine, a competitive shooter and school teacher.

On-Target is grateful for the support it has received throughout the years. We will continue producing DVDs that provide clear and concise instructions as we take great pride in the up-close videography and easy to understand instructions of each DVD.

*Background of the Initial Owners: Tom Binns had a successful career in video and film production at the corporate level prior to On-Target’s formation. Larry Shields had an interesting career with the Federal Aviation Administration along with an avid interest in hunting and shooting. He gained military experience in Viet Nam where he returned as a Service Disabled Veteran. Their interest in the shooting sports is what led Tom and Larry to create On-Target Productions.
